The Patch Thrift Shop (TS) is a boutique-style secondhand store serving the USAG Stuttgart community.  The purpose of the TS operation is to provide welfare funds, scholarship awards, and provide for community enhancement.  The associate position encompasses all activities required to support this mission.  It is important that associates take pride in their work and in the TS.  

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, receiving and processing donated items, pricing and preparing items for sale, placing/displaying items on the floor, and operating the register/processing customers’ purchases.  Additional daily duties include light cleaning of common areas, vacuuming, mopping, and organizing work areas.  A standard shift is either 1000-1600, 1000-1800, or 1000-1400, depending on the day of the week, with the requirement to arrive 15 minutes before the shift begins and depart up to 30 minutes after the shift ends.  Associates are required to work a minimum of one Saturday per month during winter hours, and a minimum of two Saturdays per month during summer hours.

Key skills and abilities: Be able to work well with others, in a professional and respectful manner.  Have a willingness to work in all types of weather.  Possess a general working knowledge of retail prices for merchandise.  Demonstrate initiative, be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal to no supervision once trained.  Have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with both co-workers and customers.  Possess ability to be flexible pertaining to assigned tasks while on duty and for fulfilling vacant shifts.  Be physically able to lift 30 pounds unassisted or heavier items with assistance, to stand/stay on feet for extended periods of time, and to climb and operate from a step ladder.  Have ability to occasionally perform heavier duty tasks such as moving display racks (assisted), operating carpet cleaning machines, and window washing.  Ability to speak multiple languages is helpful but not required.

Eligible individuals must be 18 years of age or older, possess DOD-issued identification, and hold SOFA status.

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, becoming proficient in all associate positions (receiving/processing donations, pricing and preparing items for sale, placing/displaying items on the sales floor, operating the register/processing customers’ purchases), training all new associates in all positions, filling in for associates during lunch breaks, ensuring all shifts are covered sufficiently through effective scheduling, monitoring sales and payroll percentage, ensuring preparation for sales and major events, assisting cashier at end of day register close-out.  Additional daily duties include checking and responding to emails/phone calls/customer inquiries, assisting associates when needed, light cleaning of common areas, vacuuming, mopping, and organizing work areas.  The TS Manager works directly with the TS VP to ensure the store runs efficiently.
