SCSC awards merit-based scholarships to students and spouses in the USAG Stuttgart community. Every dollar comes from the Patch Thrift Shop, made possible by the hundreds of hours our volunteers give each year, the dedication of our Patch Thrift Shop associates, and you, every time you shop or donate.

    How scholarships are awarded

    The SCSC Scholarship Committee oversees the review process to ensure transparency and fairness. Awards are based on a holistic look at each applicant:

    Academic achievement (GPA) Extracurricular activities Personal essay Community service & leadership Work experience

    The Scholarship Committee decides the number of scholarships and the amount of each award based on available funds. Submitting an application does not guarantee an award.

    Who can apply

    All applicants must meet these requirements:

    1. The applicant must be a dependent whose sponsor is either:
      • Living and working within the USAG Stuttgart Military Community, or
      • Assigned to a USAG Stuttgart military unit but serving at a remote duty location.
    2. Both the applicant and the sponsor must have valid Department of War (DoW) ID cards.
    3. The Scholarship Committee makes all final eligibility determinations.

    Find your scholarship

    SCSC offers four scholarship categories. Apply for the one that fits where you are headed in Fall 2027.

    High School – 4-Year College or University

    Minimum GPA 3.0

    This scholarship is for you if you are:

    • A graduating high school senior (Class of 2027), or
    • A gap-year student whose last year of school was as a high school senior,

    and you will begin undergraduate studies at an accredited 4-year college, university, or military academy in Fall 2027.

    Below a 3.0? You may still apply with a teacher recommendation attesting that your current academic ability will lead to success in college.

    Continuing College or University Education

    Minimum GPA 2.5

    For students who have already graduated from high school (or earned a GED) and are continuing their education at an accredited college or university in Fall 2027.

    You must be in good academic standing with your school.

    Spouses: please apply for the Spouse Scholarship instead.

    Technical / Trade / Other

    Minimum GPA 2.0

    For students who will begin or continue studies in Fall 2027 at an accredited technical or trade school, or a certification or other specialized program, and who are:

    • A graduating high school senior (Class of 2027), or
    • Already graduated from high school (or earned a GED).

    Spouses: please apply for the Spouse Scholarship instead.

    Spouse Scholarship

    All spouses apply here

    For spouses who will begin or continue studies in Fall 2027 at an accredited college, university, technical school, trade school, or certification program, and whose sponsor is:

    • Living and working within the USAG Stuttgart Military Community, or
    • Assigned to a USAG Stuttgart military unit but stationed at a remote location.

    The spouse application has its own questions, so spouses are compared with other spouses. Whether you're in school now or returning after years at home, you have a path to apply.

    A fair, anonymous review

    Essays are scored by an independent Scholarship Selection Panel of volunteer military and civilian members of the Stuttgart community. Panelists are screened for conflicts of interest, their dependents may not apply, and applicant identities stay anonymous throughout scoring.

    All other parts of the application are reviewed by the SCSC Scholarship Committee under the same standards and confidentiality guidelines.

    Before you apply

    1. Gather and submit all required information and official documents. Applications are judged only on what you submit.
    2. Answer every question completely and give specific dates where asked.
    3. Keep a copy of your completed application.
